Ivo Cossa

Born in Nkomazi, Mpumalanga, and raised in Johannesburg’s vibrant township of
Soweto, Ivo Cossa is a multidisciplinary artist whose work bridges the realms of art,
science, and technology. With a deep-rooted passion for creativity and innovation, Ivo
holds an Advanced Diploma in Fine Art from Vaal University of Technology, where he
majored in sculpture and honed his skills in working with self-created materials. His
artistic practice spans oil and acrylic painting, sculpture, and welding, reflecting his
hands-on approach to art-making and his upbringing in a family that values self-reliance
and resourcefulness.

Inspired by the visionary works of Leonardo da Vinci and the transformative ambitions of
Elon Musk, Ivo’s art is driven by a desire to improve human conditions, foster tolerance,
and create a world of equality and happiness. His conceptual framework, rooted in
Afrofuturism, envisions a future where art, science, and technology converge to expand
humanity’s survival into outer space, creating a multiverse of possibilities where every
individual’s dreams can thrive.

Ivo has exhibited his work extensively in his community, including solo exhibitions at the
Pimville Community Centre and Funda Centre in Soweto. As a dedicated educator, he
has engaged in community art programs, teaching children and sharing his passion for
creativity with the youth. Currently, Ivo is equipping himself with the tools to further his
artistic practice and is pursuing a one-year teaching qualification to deepen his impact
on future generations.

Looking ahead, Ivo aims to establish a foundation dedicated to heritage preservation and
African cultural development, with a focus on Afrofuturism as a means of reimagining the
continent’s future. Through his art and initiatives, he seeks to inspire a world where
innovation, love, and unity pave the way for a brighter tomorrow.
